Roof load: weight, balance & limits
Fuku Offroad Team · June 2026 · 6 min read

TL;DR — direct answer
Respect the dynamic (driving) load limit, not just the static one, keep heavy items low and centred over the rear axle, and strap everything to the rack — not the crossbars alone.
How to choose
A roof platform has two ratings: static (parked — e.g. rooftop tents when camped) and dynamic (moving), which is much lower. Overloading the dynamic limit raises your centre of gravity and hurts handling on trails.
Load heavy, dense items first, low and centred slightly rearward. Recovery boards and light bulky gear go up top. Always tie down to the platform’s anchor points.

FAQ
Can I mount a rooftop tent?
Yes, within the static load rating when parked. Confirm the dynamic rating covers the tent’s weight while driving.
